An impeccable symbiosis of visual and physical is hard to come by. Fusing all sensations that make us human is what Ryan Heffington excels at. His trajectory of work includes a residency at MOCA Los Angeles (Heffington moves MOCA), to choreographer and guest on RuPaul’s drag race. This macro view of his world is why Heffington’s latest endeavor, KTCHN, will be a true extravaganza that is not worth missing.
Teaming with costume designer Mindy LeBrock, producer Allison Karman and production designer Adrien Gilliland, this trifecta helmed by Heffington are creating, a show that will explore, “celebrity culture, human loneliness, public versus private image and new elements of drag and queer culture.” This hugely relevant and admirably ambitious venture is inspired by the equally wrought works of New York based artist, Nolan Hendrickson. Hendrickson’s worlds are a vibrant sensation of movement with a sexualized energy that is exhibited through color and the contorted exaggerated human form. It’s these images that will be echoed throughout the brilliantly crafted costumes of LeBrock’s and the all encompassing realities designed by Gilliland and Hendrickson himself. Pair this with musical soundtrack provided by Daniel Lanois, Twin Shadow, Active Child, Autre Ne Veut and Dirty Beaches- KTCHN proves it will be a true amalgam of modern spectacle and experience.
