Now on view at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Space Program: Europa is the latest installment of Tom Sachs’s ongoing Space Program project. For Space Program: Europa, Sachs presents an immersive installation of large scale sculptures including the Mobile Quarantine Facility, Mission Control, and the Landing Exploration Module (LEM), as well as a variety of materials and equipment for conducting scientific experiments. A live activation of the exhibition by Sachs’s astronauts took place the opening weekend; a second is scheduled for the closing weekend (details to be announced).
As an accompaniment to Space Program: Europa, Sachs presents Logjam Café, a multi-media installation/coffee shop/bar featuring a custom coffee cart built in collaboration with Peddler NY and coffee from Brooklyn-based roaster Lofted Coffee. Sachs’ menu also offers whiskey, mezcal, Tecate, and a vacuum-sealed Oreo-Ritz cracker hybrid: the Ritzeo. The café sells books, zines, stickers, and T-shirts. Logjam Café is also an “OCD rehab center”, offering visitors opportunities to engage firsthand with Sachs’s studio systems.
