Now on view at the Palo Alto Art Center, the exhibition Hear This! features artworks with sonic components by Chris Duncan, Mark Malmberg, Christian Marclay, Kate Lee Short, and Julianne Swartz. Kate Lee Short presents The Oculus, a large installation of salvaged speakers providing an unfamiliar and disorienting experience of recorded materials. Loop, a tapestry by Julianne Swartz, employs speakers and wires in the place of thread. An interactive sculpture by Chris Duncan draws upon the sonic input of its surroundings, and will host a performance by musicians Danny Paul Grody and Félicia Atkinson on February 14, from 2-5 pm. A kinetic mobile by Mark Malmberg responds to a variety of environmental factors and sounds. A video projection from Christian Marclay titled Looking for Love shows the artist raising and dropping the needle of a record player, searching for “love” in the song lyrics.

The Palo Alto Art Center hosts an opening reception with a performance by Chris Duncan and a film projection by Paul Clipson on Friday, January 23, from 7-10 pm.
