January 27 – February 26, 2017
Reception: January 27, 7-10 pm

Friday, January 27, Everybody opens Lantau Elk Cat, a solo exhibition by artist, writer, and curator Jocko Weyland. The exhibition is an expansion on a photograph by the artist: Weyland explains, “It starts with a photograph I took of an Elk tag I had done on Lantau, an island in Hong Kong, in 2008. I did the tag and about an hour later walked by and the cat was there and I took the picture which went on to be a sort of personal/Elk talisman for me.” In the exhibition at Everybody, Weyland has used the photograph as a point of departure for painting and sculpture.

Under the moniker Elk, Weyland produces a zine and publishes books; he previously ran a gallery in Brooklyn (Elk Gallery) before becoming chief curator at MOCA Tucson. In 2015, SFAQ [Projects] published Sweatingelktears, a collaboration between Weyland (Elk) and Reneé French (Sweatingtears).
