September 23 – November 19, 2016
Reception: September 22, 6-8 pm

Now on view at Hauser & Wirth London, Framed and Frame presents the eponymous installation by Mike Kelley—Framed and Frame (Miniature Reproduction ‘Chinatown Wishing Well’ built by Mike Kelley after ‘Miniature Reproduction ‘Seven Star Cavern’ Built by Prof. H.K. Lu’). For Framed and Frame, Kelley recreated the two structures that comprise the famous Chinatown Los Angeles landmark Seven Star Cavern, a lumpy wishing well built in the 1930s—the wishing well itself and its surrounding cyclone fencing. These two structures are displayed separately, alongside a number of other works exploring ideas of framing, layering, overlaying, etc. The examination of folk art traditions and their resonance Kelley conducted in Framed and Frame inspired his Memory Ware series, which will be exhibited at Hauser & Wirth New York this fall (November 3 – December 24, 2016).
