For the penultimate exhibition at its Tenderloin location, Ever Gold [Projects] presents 24 Hour Psycho, a solo exhibition of new work by Petra Collins. Collins presents So Sad Today Series, a group of large-scale photographs of young women in states of sadness and distress, in an embrace and celebration of the complex reality of girlhood. Collins photographs friends and acquaintances, collaborating with her subjects who alternately act as assistants, holding lighting equipment and otherwise contributing to the mood of the setting. The resultant photographs are carefully composed and aestheticized, and present their female subjects as authentically emotional but not without agency. These photographic works are accompanied by a neon installation, in a complementary exploration of the notion of female hysteria.
