David Ireland House at 500 Capp Street
2016

After years of tireless renovations, David Ireland’s house at 500 Capp Street, San Francisco, opened to the public on the weekend of January 15, 2016. Ireland was known for his blending of art and life, which extended into his living arrangement. His “Merzbau in the Mission” is a fitting tribute to an artist who meant so much to so many. The walls of the home are coated in glossy polyurethane to insure the stability of Ireland’s varnished interior plaster finish. This treatment encapsulates the home in a honeycomb, ensuring continuation of the artist’s legacy.
