Ampersand Gallery & Fine Books presents Another Smile, an exhibition of paintings by Mark Mulroney, alongside a series of carbon transfer drawings made for Dogs Bleeding Evil, a small edition book released through the gallery imprint, Ampersand Editions. The new paintings included in the exhibition feature fetish figures and masks, melting candles, and flowers and plants—a group of images and patterns that seemingly reference an unmentioned source or some recognizable set of symbols. The imagery of Dogs Bleeding Evil is not explicitly related to the paintings on view, but the sentiment is complimentary; the book addresses the fundamental nature of humans—as good and evil, thoughtful and careless, creative and destructive—with equal parts playfulness and cynicism.
Saturday, December 5, Ampersand Gallery & Fine Books hosts an opening reception for the exhibition, where Mulroney’s new book will be available for purchase. A special edition with an original drawing is also available.
