July 17 – September 4, 2015
Reception: July 17, 6–9 pm
Gallery 16 opens Golden State, an exhibition of new work by Alice Shaw. Shaw is a photographer who regularly incorporates a variety of other media in her practice, at times working into and on top of photographic images; these works sometimes take the form of invented photographic landscapes or situations.
In Golden State, Shaw examines the priorities of contemporary life in California: “religion, money, fame, booze, driving, and parking.” These new works are photographic and involve mixed media components including readymade objects, collage, found images, fiber elements, and paint.
