A pair of simultaneous exhibitions at Marlborough Chelsea and Marlborough Broome Street features Andrew Kuo and Scott Reeder. Andrew Kuo, a New York native, presents new paintings at Marlborough Chelsea; Kuo’s meticulous paintings describe complex human experiences within the structures and aesthetics of charts and info-graphics. Reeder, originally from Ann Arbor and now working between Chicago and Detroit, also presents new paintings, as well as a group of neon works. Kuo and Reeder work with text in similar ways, presenting observations and statements in unexpected structures: reframing and elevating the familiar. At Marlborough Broome Street, Kuo and Reeder have created Thinkers, a “mini nightclub” space entered through a back door of the gallery, which will host weekly performances and events.
Marlborough Chelsea hosts an opening reception Saturday, February 21, from 6–8 pm.
