Thursday, June 5, Altman Siegel Gallery hosts a public reception for their new exhibition of work by Sara VanDerBeek, “Ancient Objects, Still Lives.” VanDerBeek presents a selection of photographs and sculptural objects that feature Pre-Colombian artifacts alongside depictions of relative contemporary subjects. The combination of forms and imagery, and the similarity of their aesthetics, results in a kind of equalizing suspension from history for both groups of materials; in this space the historical artifact and the contemporary counterpart meet, casting light upon each other.

The reception will take place June 5, 5:30 – 7:30 pm.
