The opening was packed and the line was long. Luckily several works caught my attention once I was inside. My eye seemed to be drawn to texture and to a sensibility that favors intense craftsmanship, subtle and yielding soft materials and visual candy. Certainly, this survey is only a taste for works and artists that deserve longer looks, which I pose is one of the purposes of the fair. There were also a few surprises, such as the humorous and bittersweet works on paper by author and entrepreneur Dave Eggers by Electric Works. There is also a lovely Jay DeFeo still life in the Ever Gold Gallery space, which is excellently curated (although full disclosure: they are the publishers of this magazine, my opinion still holds without bias). More on the fair later—after there has been time for reflection and absorption, and of course, more images.
