Currently on view at Maryam Nassir Zadeh, an offsite location organized by Lisa Cooley, New York is “no I didn’t go to any museums here…” a solo exhibition by Andy Coolquitt that distills the artist’s longstanding interest in how everyday objects transform when arranged in close proximity or stretched across a space. It is the artist’s belief that augmenting these spaces changes not only how we perceive the works, but also how we experience ourselves and the spaces around us, disrupting and re-enchanting one’s everyday experience. Coolquitt has frequently utilized scavenged materials to create Apollonian, totemic, energy staffs, or entropic, pathos-infused gatherings of urban detritus. However, in recent years, he’s united both of these directions into singular vitrines and tableaux.

“no I didn’t go to any museums here…” is on view through March 2, 2014.
