Currently on view at Clint Roenisch Gallery, Toronto is “Catalogue,” a solo exhibition of new paintings by Dorian FitzGerald. Like glimpses into various Xanadus, the subjects here include a blackamoor sculpture from the apartment of Coco Chanel; a violent bronze in the drawing room of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé‘s Paris apartment; two Chinese scholar stones auctioned from the collection of Liz Taylor and a text painting about the Polish Art Deco artist Tamara de Lempicka who died in 1980. At the heart of the exhibition is the very act of collecting, a meditation on provenance and taste, aura and status, abundance and dispersal.

“Catalogue” is on view through January 4th, 2014.
