Currently on view at STANDARD in Oslo, Norway is a solo exhibition by Alex Hubbard, “Dirty Harry 1 2 3″ on view through November 2nd. Alex Hubbard is an amazing versatile mixed media artist who works within numerous mediums which include painting, sculpture, video, and installation. “Dirty Harry 1 2 3” exhibition comprises of new sculptures and paintings from his resin and fibreglass series. Below is an excerpt from the press release, an interesting introduction to his solo exhibition.

“Thirteen is the smallest number with eight letters in its name spelled out in English:

This painting looks like as if somebody parked a yellow Kia in the lobby of the Shore Club. This other one is upbeat like “Upside Down” by Donna Summer, but played on small Muji cardboard speakers so you have to get in very close to hear the words. The third one has the feeling of somebody having boxed up all their belongings and now waiting for the truck to arrive (plus some friends who said they would help). There are two paintings in the exhibition that studied the rules of attraction, but came to entirely different conclusions. This other one is simply neglecting the difference between decorum and decoration. Another one is doubling the dose of mayonnaise in the recipe for Waldorf salad to make it more of a meal. This one is being pulled in different directions, like an untrained dog sled team, like a 58% from Rotten Tomatoes, or simply too many Vodka Red Bulls before an early flight. This pink and green one feels like an iTunes recommendation that has me completely misunderstood. Another one has the appearance of Cary Grant walking in “High Noon” (clean-shaven and dressed in a dark suit with waistcoat and a shiny Sheriff Star – bound by his own code of ethics to secure both his own and the town’s stability). This one booked a table for two at 9, but its memory got messed up and it turned up at the wrong restaurant. This one keeps on forgetting to cancel the book of the month and stores them in a closet not to be reminded. This last one comes with its own golden microphone for those special karaoke performances. The lamp sculptures are not iconoclasts – they just don’t like hanging around storytellers.

Three is the magic number. This is Alex Hubbard’s third exhibition at STANDARD (OSLO).”
