Colter Jacobsen created the charmingly off double drawings of snapshots, side by side, in the 2010 SECA exhibit at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. One drawing was copied from a photograph, and the second was made without a reference image. The second drawing’s color and details are washed out, but it is a feat of mental and physical memory.

His first solo exhibition, at Gallery Paule Anglim, is a series of finely crafted collages of textured, found materials in the shape of men’s button down shirts.  Viewing them is like standing in a big closet alone, not really looking at the clothes around you, letting your thoughts unfold.

Colter Jacobsen’s “Scanning the long sleeves of the shore” is on view at Gallery Paule Anglim through March 9, 2013.
