April 7-9, The Lab presents Split Brain Robotics, a collaborative performative installation by Kal Spelletich, Masahiro Kahata, and Mitch Altman. Kal Spelletich (artist, robot maker), Masahiro Kahata (brainwave control hardware/software), and Mitch Altman (integration hardware and software) present two large robots, which will be controlled by volunteers from the audience wearing EEG brainwave-monitoring helmets. One participant’s left-brain controls one robot and the other participant’s right-brain controls the other robot. If the participants are able to make the robot arms kiss, the audience will be rewarded with a show of lights.
