The Female Gaze, Part Two: Women Look at Men
Cheim & Read
547 W 25th Street, New York, NY 10001
June 23 – September 2, 2016

Now on view through the end of the summer at Cheim & Read, The Female Gaze, Part Two: Women Look at Men is a group exhibition presenting portraits and depictions of men by women, curated by John Cheim. The first iteration of this two part exhibition series was Women Look at Women, which was on view for the summer of 2009. The Female Gaze, Part Two: Women Look at Men features 32 women artists working in painting, photography, and sculpture, complicating and expanding traditional/stereotypical gender roles by taking men as subjects in their work, and exploring the question posed in the exhibition text: “Would we react differently to these works if they were made by a man?” The Female Gaze, Part Two includes works dating back to 1927, and works made as recently as this year.
