et al. presents MEDIA BASED TIME, an exhibition of new work by Oakland based multimedia artist Chris Duncan. Duncan has also worked as a publisher for more than a decade, producing artist books, records, and editions, including a ten issue series of artist books under the moniker HOT AND COLD. He works with Maria Otero to produce LAND AND SEA, a series of artist books and records.

CAPITAL opens New Pictures, Bench and Six Sampler Works, an exhibition of new work by Brendan Fowler. Fowler presents a series of paintings created using embroidery machines, rendering photographic images—unconventional, distorted images, not the scenic or kitsch images one might associate with the folk craft of embroidery—in layers of thread and fabric.

Ladybug House hosts an opening reception for The First Morning of the Earth, the gallery’s inaugural exhibition, featuring new photographs by Justin Clifford Rhody. Justin Clifford Rhody is an artist and musician, perhaps best known for his traveling presentations of found 35mm slide photography; visit Rhody’s website for more information on upcoming slideshow presentations. The opening reception doubles as the book release for Zona Urbana, a 110-page monograph of work by Rhody produced by Mirro Editions.
