ENFOLDING

Microscope Gallery

1329 Willoughby Avenue #2B, Brooklyn, NY 11237

Reception: October 10, 6-9 pm

October 10 – November 17, 2014

Friday, October 10, Microscope Gallery opens ENFOLDING, an exhibition of new work by Allison Somers. Somers, once based in Brooklyn and now working in Paris, experiments with image-making and printing processes, employing photographic tools and chemicals as well as dyeing techniques and other textile treatments to produce dynamic visual effects. Producing subtle, meditative objects through precise physical and chemical processes, Somers creates visual representations of nature through which an occasional, distinctly contemporary reference surfaces. These depictions are precarious, as they closely and delicately describe the natural environment while clearly being the products of manmade processes and materials. For the exhibition at Microscope Gallery, Somers presents textiles treated with photosensitive dyes, cyanotypes on birch bark, and photograms of dissolving salt.

The gallery hosts an opening reception Friday, October 10, from 6 – 9 pm.
