GRIT New York to Team Up with Ricky Powell, Iconic Street Photographer Hosts Pop Up Gallery in Conjunction with CBGB Music and Film Festival New York, New York – September 25, 2013 – “Ricky Powell’s Funky Dope Maneuvers Photography & Slide Show,” features 30–images of Old School New York including legendary photos of Hip-Hop, Rock and Art Icons, that will line the walls of a Pop Up Gallery at Site 109, Wednesday, October 9th.
Ricky Powell, one of the most iconic street photographers of all time is teaming up with GRIT NEW YORK to bring this pivotal show of classic and never-before-seen images to the Lower East Side of New York in conjunction with the CBGB Music and Film Festival. The photography exhibit will embody the spirit of Ricky’s images, CBGB’s history of underground musical acts and good old New York City.
The Opening Night of “Ricky Powell’s Funky Dope Maneuvers Photography & Slide Show” will have Ricky presenting a slideshow of photos and an accompanying soundtrack that takes its viewers through the ride that is his life. The stories are hilariously colorful and rich in New York street and music history. Special musical guest, DJ Stretch Armstrong will be complimenting the photography at this special event with his signature aggressive mixing abilities.
Ricky Powell’s iconic images of famous New Yorkers like Basquiat and Andy Warhol, and Hip-Hop groups like Run DMC are iconic print reminders of the magic of New York City. At this event, attendees will be confronted with 40 foot large photos that will awe and inspire while mingling with special surprise guests.
